Detailing at an auto body shop looks different from a wash bay. Most of our detailing hours go into paint correction and protection, frequently on cars that have just come out of our own booth.

Paint correction

Swirl marks and light scratches are not dirt. They are shallow defects in the clear coat that scatter light instead of reflecting it. Correction means machine polishing a controlled amount of clear away until the surface is flat again. Clear coat is a finite resource, so we measure film thickness first and stop well short of the point where a panel would need refinishing. On a neglected daily driver, the jump in gloss after correction surprises most owners more than any coating does.

Ceramic coating and protection film

A ceramic coating bonds to corrected paint and makes the surface easier to wash and more resistant to etching from bird droppings and road film. It is not armor. Paint protection film is the physical barrier, and it pays for itself on the surfaces that take stone impacts: front bumper, leading edge of the hood, mirror caps, and the rocker area behind the front wheels.

Both go on after correction. Sealing defects underneath a coating locks them in.

Headlights and interiors

Oxidized headlight lenses cut usable light at night and age the front of a vehicle faster than almost anything else. We sand and refinish them rather than wiping on a topical restorer that hazes over again within a season.

Interior work covers extraction on carpet and upholstery, leather cleaning and conditioning, and the vents and trim seams where dust settles and stays.

Road treatment residue is the local hazard. A corrected and protected finish sheds it far better than bare clear, and rinsing the car before that residue sits for weeks does more good than any product applied afterward.
