Dry ice blasting cleans with solid carbon dioxide pellets fired at high velocity. The pellet strikes the surface, flash freezes the contaminant until it loses adhesion, then sublimates straight to gas. Nothing is left behind to collect or dry out. Why no media and no water matters

Sand and soda blasting leave grit in every seam and cavity, and you will find it for years. Pressure washing drives water into connectors, insulation, and closed sections where it sits and causes trouble later. Dry ice leaves neither behind, which is exactly what makes it usable in places neither alternative belongs.

Engine bays, where decades of oily film lift off without soaking wiring harnesses and control modules
Undercarriages and suspension components ahead of an inspection or a sale
Electrical enclosures and connectors, since the process is dry and non-conductive
Interiors and firewall areas after smoke exposure, where the odor lives in the residue rather than the air
Panels and cavities during a restoration teardown, when the goal is to see the actual metal before deciding what to do with it

Non-abrasive by nature

Dry ice is soft. It does not cut into the substrate the way media blasting does, so seam sealer, sound deadening, and factory coatings generally come through intact. That is the whole point: the contaminant leaves and the vehicle underneath is not reshaped in the process.

Practical notes

The process is loud and displaces carbon dioxide, so it runs in our ventilated bay rather than a customer driveway. Heavy grease sometimes needs a pre-soak. Most jobs run a matter of hours rather than days.
