Frame Work in Cincinnati, Ohio

1 min read

When a collision moves structure, the damage gets measured, not eyeballed. Glendale Body Shop has done structural auto body work on unibody and body-on-frame vehicles at the same Glendale location since 1957, using computerized measuring equipment.

Measuring against factory data

The vehicle is anchored to a bench and reference points across the underbody are compared against the manufacturer's dimensional data. That comparison shows where the structure sits now versus where it left the factory, in millimeters, at every control point rather than at the one spot that looks obviously bent.

A car can drive straight, close its doors, and still sit far enough out of specification to change how it behaves in a second impact.

Pulling, and the limits of pulling

Where the metal allows, we apply controlled pulls and re-measure until readings return to tolerance. Where it does not, the section is replaced. Ultra high strength steel and boron components are frequently designated replace-only by the manufacturer, because heating and reshaping them destroys the very property that makes them work in a crash. We honor that designation even when a pull would be faster and cheaper.

Symptoms worth having checked

Uneven tire wear after an impact, a steering wheel sitting off center on a straight road, doors or a hood with gaps that no longer match side to side, or a vehicle that tracks to one side are all reasons to have the structure measured. So is any collision where an airbag deployed.

Documentation you keep

Every structural repair here leaves with before and after measurements. That record matters at resale, and it matters if anyone later questions whether the vehicle was put back correctly.
